I never really liked rollercoasters....

It has been a while since my last post.  What has happened in this seemingly silent week?  A LOT!  It has been a roller coaster ride of excitement and disappointment.  Now, it may seem like a kiddie coaster to some of you, but I feel like I was on the Texas Giant.

First and foremost, my sweet baby girl turned 1...how is this possible.  It is bittersweet. I'm so excited to see her learning and growing, but I'm also sad to think this might be our last baby and she's NOT a baby anymore.  She has learned to say and do so many things in such a short period of time.  She now climbs on the fireplace...and no, she hasn't learned that it is dangerous despite my several attempts to discourage the behavior or the fact that she actually fell off of it and gave herself a pretty nasty busted chin.  Because of her new found climbing skills, she has also learned the phrase "No, no" and says it often.  She can wave and say "Bye, Bye".  She says "Cheese" when the iPhone camera is pointed in her direction.  She has learned how to sign "more" and we're working on "please" and "thank you"...I know, those probably won't come as quickly.  She carries around her baby doll, hugging and kissing it and saying "Baby, baby, baby...muah!". And her little wobbly walk has turned in to a full blown sprint.  Dear Samantha, when did you grow up?  Where has the time gone?

We had a wonderful Birthday party for her on Saturday.  Despite missing a few important people, all went well.  Samantha made out like a bandit and will probably be the best dressed little girl in town.  We also enjoyed the company of some dear friends that trekked to Tulsa from OKC to spend the evening before the party with us.  Thank you, Trasen and Aeriel!  I made Samantha's cake and cupcakes, and they actually looked really pretty.

Now for the yucky stuff.  I received the call today...the position I interviewed for was filled by an internal applicant.  I have lots of not so hot  feelings about this, but I'll keep them to myself (well, I'll leave them off this blog, at least!).  When the phone rang and I saw the number was from the potential employer, my heart skipped a beat...I thought for sure it was for a second interview. Then the bad news...."You were a very strong candidate, and gave a good interview, BUT..." I HATE that word: "BUT". Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

I've also had an off week due to some terrible allergies.  The kids are suffering from them too.  Thanks to allergies, I've been up at 6:00am every morning because Grant and Samantha can't breathe and have decided that the solution to the problem is to not sleep!  Samantha has an ear infection, AGAIN.  Grant, bless his overtired heart, has been super cranky and needy.  I swear, I'm one toddler temper tantrum away from throwing my own. Wouldn't that be an entertaining sight?

One last complaint.  Kasey leaves for Kansas City on Monday.  He will be home only on weekends for the entire month of February. He was supposed to be gone the entire month of March as well, but thankfully that was cancelled. I will have to be alert and ready to deal with aforementioned toddler tantrums by myself, with no breaks.  I should probably just check myself in to the psych ward now.

Back to the upside...I have applied for 3 jobs in the past week.  Two of the jobs are full time, and the other is part time.  At this rate, I think anytime out of the house would do me some good.  I'm hopeful that I'll hear about at least one of them.  Hope is what is getting me through (and probably keeping my kids alive-kidding).  I'm super excited about starting my cake decorating class on Monday.  I'm also about 28 rows away from finishing my first large knitting project.

All in all, the good far outweighs the bad.  Writing all of this out helped me see that.  I should be thankful that I don't NEED a job; there are plenty of people out there who do. Maybe I'll take a mini vacation by myself for a night.  Heck, maybe I'll treat myself to a massage and mani/pedi. We'll just have to see what the next week brings.
